Michelle Harcha, DVM, MA
Leadership, Communication, and Emotional Intelligence Training and Development

Michelle Harcha, DVM, MA has over 30 years experience in the veterinary profession. Her unique combination of professional experience includes 10 years in clinical practice, 12 years in a variety of roles at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and 10 years in academia leading the Professional Development curriculum for veterinary students at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Her passion for communication training began when she worked in a veterinary emergency clinic. It was in this environment that she became certified in Everything DiSC® and saw how this assessment and communication skills made a huge impact working with and managing veterinary healthcare teams and improving the client experience. After completing several veterinary specific communication courses, the Institute for Healthcare Communication faculty training and the FRANK™ training, she led the development of a comprehensive applied communication curriculum at Ohio State.

In 2017, she formed LeadYourShip, LLC to bring her experience in communication, leadership skills, and emotional intelligence to the veterinary profession.

    In addition, MyEverythingDiSC.com offers people access to insights about their DiSC® style and the styles of others. This includes comparison reports and strategies for applying DiSC to real work situations.

  • Communication

    Communication skills are an essential – and often under-developed - business skill set. They provide a foundation for an effective work environment with staff and colleagues, as well as a way to enhance the client experience.

    In addition to utilizing the Everything DiSC® Workplace® Profile, I focus on the eight core communication skills that help veterinary healthcare teams develop better relationships within their team and with their clients. The eight core skills include: 1) open-ended questions; 2) reflective listening; 3) empathy; 4) non-verbal communication; 5) pausing; 6) chunk and check; 7) sign posting, and 8) summary.

  • Emotional Intelligence

    Emotional intelligence explores the relationship between understanding yourself and understanding your social networks as a crucial means of achieving success in life and work. The Everything DiSC® Workplace® Profile can enhance individuals’ understanding of themselves as well as offer a way to understand others. Veterinary healthcare team members must begin with understanding and managing themselves, demonstrating empathy, and then communicating with others.

Online

Everything DiSC Workplace Certification is your best resource to gain foundational knowledge and tools for facilitating Everything DiSC. Designed with your busy schedule in mind, this online course gives you the flexibility of self-paced learning, paired with live-collaborative sessions led by Wiley’s expert trainers.

Increase your confidence and competence in delivering Everything DiSC Workplace in your organization. This course offers rigorous new content on the principles of the DiSC® model and the supporting research. During the live sessions, you will practice facilitating small groups and explore challenging scenarios that could arise during workshops. You’ll also learn how to keep Everything DiSC alive within your organization by creating a culture of DiSC and explore MyEverythingDiSC, the mobile-friendly, interactive learning portal that is exclusive to Everything DiSC.

This program Includes:

  • Four modules of self-directed and live collaborative learning (each requiring three to five hours of time per week), conducted over a four week period
  • Active knowledge checks to help participants assess how well they understand the content and to improve learning and retention
